APPEARANCE
A sleek, dark hairstyle that falls right to her mid-back, hair is always pulled up in ponytail along with bangs that trail just to her jaw in a layered cut. Ana-Lucia is a petite Hispanic woman and it shows through her height of 5'5. Her skin is of an olive complexion due to being of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Body lean and toned from all that gym time and training through her former occupation. Almond shaped-brown eyes and full lips she is the definition of beauty. But beauty comes in small packages. Literally.
PERSONALITY
A loose cannon. Ana does not care what time of day it is, if you're wearing underwear or what your mother made for breakfast. She is here to do her job, not chit chat. The young woman could not give two craps if you complain, but if you get in her face...watch out. It has been known as a stereotype that Latina's are fiery and 'spicy' by nature. In this case it couldn't be more true. When we first see a glimpse of Cortez, she punches Sawyer. Pretty intense. And that's just it, she's in your face every moment. Action first, thinking later.
But there's that other side to her. The calmer side that Sayid or Jack sees. The motherly and maternal side, the one that just wants to go home back to her mother and forget it all happened. She's human too.
BACKSTORY
Ana Lucia Cortez was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Her mother, her captain of the LAPD doesn't often set favors for her daughter, considering that Ana tries to ask for no favors. Ana Lucia is very aggressive, tough and is in your face when you either, a; piss her off, b; break the law, or c; you're generally not a good person. Though she has her moments there is a definite motherly side to her. The young Latina had met a man by the name of Danny, she finally found hope and finally was happy. One day it all fell apart. She was going to have a baby, pregnant a mother.
Ana Lucia had been caught up in a burglary in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was shot after someone by the name of Jason McCormick asked to grab his I.D, believing him, Ana let him and he whipped out a gun, killing the baby.
After that, Danny left her and Ana was put into therapy. Didn't matter what, nothing seemed to be working on her end of the deal. The therapist took her badge until she was ready to work again. But would she want to?
She sat there, bored, outraged with herself and outraged with the man that had taken the inconsideration to try to kill or harm a human being, especially someone who was carrying another life within her. Earning back the badge, Ana had had enough and decided to go out and find Jason. What brought him to her was a bar. That's all it took, tequila and tonic her favorite drink and a gun in the back of her jeans. Her dark eyes resting on the clock, until, show time.
"I was pregnant."
Bang, bang.
Purposely not identifying him so she could take him out. Just as he tried to do with her.
The blood was on her hands now. The body found, no prints. She was smart, she was keen on the situation, but her mother knew her better. Ana gave up her work as a police officer, turning in her badge and set out back for the job she so loathed. Airport security. In the bar a man had approached her about perhaps needing a bodyguard. But all Ana got was a wake up call. She needed to go home. A few drinks, a hotel room by herself, and splitting apart of a torn family that was all she needed.
In the airport a man by the name of Jack Shephard (Christian's son) had been arguing with a receptionist in the airport to bury his father. Ana taking it into consideration as she began to strike up conversation with him at the airport bar, soon making a call later to her mother, the very last call she'd make.
She wanted to go home.
WRITING SAMPLE
"Where did you get that?" came a raspy voice. Ana-Lucia stood there watching him with her arms folded across her chest, her body in a stance. Seeing the look on his face her hard though dark, brown eyes stared at him as if looking into his very soul. "The knife." finally finishing in case he tried to play dumb.
"Where did you get it?" it certainly didn't come from any luggage she'd seen. And come to think of it, she could use it more than him. They didn't exactly like each other, not since when he had tried to butt into the conversation even when Charlie got on her nerves. If she heard one more thing from Jack or saw one more look from him over Kate Ana would probably upchuck. Brown eyes watching him and then eyed the mango. Two could play this game. Hopping over a low branch, the woman moved over towards the tree and stood on her toes, grabbing onto a mango and shined it up with her shirt.
"Looks good." the tomboy sassed him, leaning away from him and towards the stream, washing it off and took a bite from it. Juicy. God she was sick of fruit. But anything to break his little heart, if he even had one. Still, it seemed like there was an attraction there and one that she wouldn't admit to. "Surprised you're not on the trek with Jack." rising up from a squat and munched the mango, clearly speaking with her mouth open. Tomboyish antics indeed.
