APPEARANCE
Sawyer has messy, shoulder length, dirty blond hair with grayish/blue eyes. His messy hair along with a 5'oclock shadow of facial hair makes him appear very rugged. He's quite muscular, standing at about 6'.
PERSONALITY
Sawyer has a tendency to make people think he's a jerk on purpose. He looks out for himself first and foremost, and isn't afraid to step on a few toes. He's clever enough to work on certain characters' emotions and have them side with him, if only to get something out of it. But that's only one side of Sawyer. He can also be sympathetic, and even selfless when the time is right. But those times are sometimes few and far between.
BACKSTORY:
James got off to the worst possible start as a child. After his parents were swindled out of their life savings by a con man named Sawer, James was forced to cower in terror under his bed as he listened to his father shoot and kill his mother before turning the gun on himself. After years enduring being tossed between relatives who didn't want him and foster homes who couldn't care for him, James learned that if he is to survive, he must do it on his own.
He dedicates his life to becoming a con man and hunting down the man that ruined his life. So that nothing distracts him from his goal, he even changes his name to "Sawyer." For many years Sawyer burns through women as fast as he does the money he scams. And he receives a Masters Degree in art of manipulation, deceit and betrayal until, finally, he gets the tip he has been waiting for - - An associate who owes him tells Sawyer that the real "Sawyer" has been spotted...in Australia.
While preparing to kill his nemesis, Sawyer spends a drunken afternoon on a Sydney barstool next to an American surgeon who looks to be just about done with the whole ride. But before he goes, hes got some things to say about regret. About wanting to tell his son, Jack that he doesn't blame him for turning him in. That his son is a better doctor than he ever was. And that he is proud of him. Things that won't mean much to Sawyer for a few more weeks...But Sawyer excuses himself- he's got "business" to take care of after all. And he's been waiting for this day his entire life.
When he pulls the trigger he can almost feel the rain washing the hurt away. And he thinks that maybe, just maybe there might be a chance for him after all. But then he learns that he's been a pawn in someone else's game. The man bleeding to death before him isn't "Sawyer" at all. And his obsession for revenge allowed him to be tricked into settling someone else's score.
Sawyer won himself a seat on Flight #815 after being deported from Australia for head-butting the Australian Minister of Agriculture. On the Island, he quickly establishes himself as the center of Island commerce. While the others wasted their time hoping for rescue that obviously isn't coming, Sawyer had collected virtually every remaining commodity from the "real world" and stashed it away. Anyone was welcome to what he had...as long as they paid the right price. Time had changed however, and in the end Jack and the other survivors managed to get their supplies.
Most people, especially Jack, don't see eye to eye with Sawyer. And that isn't helped by the fact that, for whatever reason, Kate can't seem to stay away from him. His voice is the only thing that seems to calm Claire's baby. But other times he makes things a lot harder than they need to be. And most of the survivors split their time between thinking him a blessing and a curse. Ironically, that's just how Sawyer feels as well.
WRITING SAMPLE
"Not so fast, jungle boy," Sawyer said, pistol pressed against the Other's back. It wasn't Bluebeard, but it was one of his boys. Seeing as how they had unfinished business, Sawyer was just going to have to use this catch as leverage. Shooting Sawyer was his first mistake. Coming out to bargain was going to be his last.
"Walk," Sawyer growled, pushing the man forwards with his pistol still against his spine; a reminder of how close he was to seeing the bright light. They trudged through a creek and were on their way up a hill when whispers floated through the trees. Sawyer almost smiled as he shoved the Other forwards again. "Those your amigos?...I ain't talkin' just yet."
